The eastern side of Peak District is home to one of the most iconic climbing locations in the country. Stretching for 30 miles from Wharncliffe, north of Sheffield, to Shining Cliff, south of Matlock is the world-famous gritstone. The main focus is the classic edges, including the ever-popular Stanage, Froggatt, Curbar and Birchen. There are many lesser edges, plus a fine set of quarries, which are virtually all in west-facing hill-top situations. Escape from the city is easy and great sunsets are a given – there is little wonder that Sheffield has become the home of choice for so many climbers.

The current edition of the country’s best-selling guidebook has taken crag coverage to a new level. Using better cameras, drone photography and better technique at processing the images we have created by far the best set of crag shots ever assembled for the eastern gritstone edges of the Peak District. This includes superb overview photos plus brilliant buttress photos of crags like Black Rocks (sample PDF download), Cratcliffe, Curbar and Wharncliffe which have previously been much harder to photograph.

The route information has also been overhauled with feedback comments and votes individually assessed from UKClimbing logbooks, and extra routes added including new routes where they have been done. A few new areas have also been documented for the first time including Rivelin Quarries, some more buttresses at Froggatt and Ravensnest Tor in the Amber Valley.

The book is effectively the fourth edition of Peak Gritstone East – the book that changed guidebooks forever in 2001. It continues the legacy of great information for these crags from Rockfax and now gives more in-depth and detailed coverage than any other available guidebook for the crags covered.

Crags in italics have significant extra content from 2015 edition.
