CHEE DALE LOWER

The lower section of Chee Dale consists of the section where the walls narrow and the river doubles back in a sweeping bend which undercuts the steep walls of the Cornice. Opposite this on the sunny side is the huge bastion of Chee Tor which makes a fine starting venue containing a set of routes that increases gradually in both difficulty and quality, culminating in superb routes like Apocalypse, The Golden Mile, Ceramic Extension and Tequila Mockingbird.
Fine though these trad routes are there is also a great appeal in the sport routes on the Cornice. Although there is little to get you going in the 6a/b grade range, above that, the climbing is as good as anywhere else in the Peak, with classics such as Clarion Call, Cry of Despair and Powerplant, in the range 7a to 8a, to mention but a few.
