Pembroke – June 2012 Range Closures

Range East closures for 2012 are mid-week days from May 14th to June 22nd. There will also be night firing on all Tuesdays and Thursdays during this period. The second closure dates are mid week days June 25th to July 20th with night firing every mid-week evening during this period. There will be access between 17.30 and 21.30 during these times to St Govan’s head and Trevellen only. The section from St Govan’s chapel to Stack Rocks will remain closed.

It is anticipated, but not yet confirmed, that the Range East will be fully open for the whole of August as in previous years allowing access to all routes from Stack Rocks car park eastwards, at all times.

Range West is a more serious business. There’s live unexploded bombs and other ordnance literally lying about on the ground. Access to this part of the range is only available to climbers who have attended the annual safety briefing. The dates for these this year are Saturday June 2nd, Saturday June 23rd and July 28th. All of the briefings are at the Castlemartin Army Camp, post code SA72 6DY. All climbers need to be at the camp gates in time for the prompt start at 9am.

Bird Nesting Restrictions
There are a number of new restrictions in place this year please check the BMC database for specific routes.

  • I can confirm that Range East and West will be open for climbing throughout August. Also it has recently been agreed that Range West will be open to briefed climbers at non-firing times for 12 months of the year.
