This is the valley running from Patterdale up to Grisedale Tarn, Dollwagon Pike, Ruthwaite and Nethermost Coves. An important winter climbing area. There are several approach options from either the west or the east which are listed for each crag. The ‘Cold Climbs’ route, Chock Gully receives a lot of attention but is actually not in condition very often. Dollywagon Gully does come into condition quickly and is fast to get to from Dunmail Raise making an early morning or evening hit a possibility. Some of the newer routes on Cock Cove Crag and Dollwagon North are often in condition when other crags in the area are not.
