COGULLONS

Located at 1000m, and approached by a long and rough drive up from the valley town of Montblanc, Cogullons is the most remote and least frequented area covered in this book. However, situation, remoteness and stunning views combine to give the Cogullons area an atmosphere which will appeal to those looking for something a little different away from the more accessible and well-trodden crags of Siurana, La Mussara and La Riba. The approach is not to be taken lightly (or at speed). The drive up and complex crag approaches will eat into a day’s climbing time and it may be preferable to plan to spend a couple of days in the Cogullons area if you are flexible. This is complicated by the general lack of facilities (the old refuge has been abandoned) however at least the camping is free. Long undercut waves of creamy-white pocketed rock are to be found at Mola Roquerola with the remains of old dwellings dotting the base. Watch your tendons. In contrast the labyrinth of Les Gralles hides the selection of pocketed walls and aretes. Les Gralles has a good selection of 5s and easier 6s whilst Mola Roquerola caters for those operating in the high 6s and 7s.
